EAST PHILLIPS COMMUNITY CENTER

The revitalization of the East Phillips Community Center started in 2007. A key aspect of the project was taking an underutilized park facility and expanding the building program, footprint, function, and usability to allow the space to serve the community for important activities such as after school activities, sports programs and community events. DJR, in partnership with LHB, was awarded the project through the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board review process. The team partners developed and designed the facility spaces and worked extensively on fundraising activities for the project. The new 14,000 square foot center opened in late 2009 and included a gym, teen center, computer room, kitchen and multi-purpose rooms. The following year, the playing fields at the park were upgraded and the outdoor hard courts were resurfaced in 2011.
