KAPPA SIGMA
Kappa Sigma Fraternity converted the existing building on the corner of 10th Ave and 5th street into a new residence for their members that will contain 26 dorm-style rooms. The renovation included an addition of a third story with 12 resident rooms, a bathroom, a new covered front porch, and a renovated side patio. The existing kitchen was also updated and an indoor bike room added in the lower level.
The long roof overhangs create a residential scale for the building and the covered front porch matches the entrance gestures of the surrounding neighborhood. The brick base ties the building into the neighborhood’s material palate while the cementitious siding and panels, as well as stucco, bring clean modern lines into the overall design. Highlights of red panels accent the windows and door.
