Rym Apartments
Rym is a five-story, 56-unit mixed use apartment building located on the corner of Hennepin Avenue and Ulysses Street. The adjacent neighborhood includes single family residential to the south and east with industrial areas to the north. The building is intentionally placed facing the 35W corridor, acting as a gateway to the neighborhood and East Hennepin Avenue. This highly visible design nods to the previous Hoover Wheel Building with its bold red, silver, and blue façade. It also incorporates gestures to the nearby industrial district with the predominant exterior material of corrugated aluminum siding and a gabion screen wall that integrates local reclaimed steel beams into the design.
The gabion/green wall along Hennepin Avenue both maintain a consistent setback and provide privacy between the parking lot and the sidewalk. Tenant and amenity spaces activate the first floor with storefront glass wrapping the corner. Above, the consistent rhythm of windows is offset by varying sized accent panels and a highlighted red mass that fronts Hennepin Avenue. Amenities in the building include indoor bike parking, a social room, and an exercise room.
