Every Third Saturday (ETS)
Every Third Saturday, or ETS, is a non-profit organization that assists veterans in the Twin Cities community, both homeless and recently back on their feet. ETS provides clothing, job training, support, and a community for the veteran men and women to gather, learn and heal. ETS’ previous location was at 4303 East 54th Street, across 43rd Avenue South from the project site. The organization had grown out of their space, and they needed a new facility to continue and expand their support and outreach efforts.
The new building is two-stories that houses a Veteran’s Resource Center, clothing donation space, offices, and various support spaces for the operation of Every Third Saturday. The corner of the building is home to Rick’s coffeeshop, a café open to the public that is operated by ETS and veterans in the community. Along the rear of the building, a patio with café seating is adjacent the coffee shop, and a separate patio adjacent to the main ETS facility provides outdoor lounge space and raised planting beds for veteran’s use.
The primary materials used for the project include red brick at the coffee shop corner, dark gray vertical fiber cement panels, and black lap siding cladding the rest of the building. Cedar wood-look panels are used to denote the two main points of entry, one at Rick’s coffee shop, and the other at Every Third Saturday’s front door. Most of the materials were donated or provided at cost to the project.
DJR provided architectural design services pro bono as did the majority of the design, development and construction partners. We are grateful and proud to be a part of this worthy cause and the work that they do every day.
